  2. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
  3.  
  4. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  5. before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  6. using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
  7. differ on details -- some request registration while others
  8. require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  9. registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
  10. using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  12. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
  13. and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  14. exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
  15. programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
  16. of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
  17. and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  18. distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
  19. and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
  20. specific group. For example, some authors require written
  21. permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
  22. Shareware.

  24. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
  25. should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
  26. whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
  27. fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
  28. And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
  29. has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  30. product, you don't pay for it.

  32. DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT

  34. Users of EOCS/POS must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
  35. "*PROGRAM is supplied as is.  The author disclaims all
  36. warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation,
  37. the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose.
  38. The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or conse-
  39. quential, which may result from the use of EOCS/POS."

  41. EOCS/POS is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge
  42. to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your
  43. friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
  44. another system.  The essence of "user-supported" software is to
  45. provide personal computer users with quality software without
  46. high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
  47.

  49. continue to develop new products.  If you find this program
  50. useful and find that you are using EOCS/POS and continue to use
  51. EOCS/POS after a reasonable trial period, you must make a reg-
  52. istration payment of $369.00 to Eastern Oklahoma Computer Services.
  53. The $369.00 registration fee will license one copy for use on all 
  54. computers at any one store or place of business.  You must treat
  55. this software just like a book.  An example is that this software
  56. may be used by any number of people and may be freely moved from
  57. one computer location to another, so long as there is no possibility
  58. of it being used at one location while it's being used at another.
  59. Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the
  60. same time.

  62. Commercial users of EOCS/POS must register and pay for their
  63. copies of EOCS/POS within 30 days of first use or their license
  64. is withdrawn.  Site-License arrangements may be made by con-
  65. tacting Eastern Oklahoma Computer Services.

  67. Anyone distributing EOCS/POS for any kind of remuneration must
  68. first contact Eastern Oklahoma Computer Services at the address
  69. below for authorization.  This authorization will be automatically
  70. granted to distributors recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its
  71. guidelines for shareware distributors, and such distributors may
  72. begin offering EOCS/POS immediately (However Eastern Oklahoma
  73. Computer Services must still be advised so that the distributor
  74. can be kept up-to-date with the latest version of EOCS/POS.).

  76. You are encouraged to pass a copy of EOCS/POS along to your
  77. friends for evaluation.  Please encourage them to register their
  78. copy if they find that they can use it.  All registered users
  79. will receive a copy of the latest version of the EOCS/POS
  80. system.
